How to be Popular

How to be Popular is another great, hilarious book from Meg Cabot. This book follows the story of Steph Landry, a clutz of whom everyone in town knows the name of. She's at the end of the highschool food chain, just for spilling a drink on the most popular girl in school. But when Steph attempts popularity, she finds out that popularity is really not all it's cracked up to be. For a long time I've been wondering what it is like to be popular. I mean you have to look and act one way all the time and alwayz be "perfect". I would hate to have to do that. I mean I am far from perfect. And i think i like my social standing. The only thing i really want is to be the wieght i am supposed to be, maybe skinnier. i want to be healthier and junk like that. not popular. But i guess this is just my opinion. this really opens a lot of doors that were closed and reveals the truth of popularity. Meg Cabot does a wonderful job.

Pirates!

Oh my goodness! This is one of the best books i've ever read. It is going on my favorites list. Nancy Kington, on her 16 birthday is promised to a former pirate, now wealthy plantation owner. But Nancy is still in love with her childhood friend and love. Nancy flees Jamaica with Minerva Sharpe, a slave on her family's plantation. Nancy and Minerva join the piratical life as they try to outrun Bartholome, the man Nancy is promised to. Celia Rees does an extroadinary job depicting life as a women, a pirate, and a female pirate. I absolutely love this book. I reccomend everyone who likes their historical fiction to read it. It will blow you away.

The Truth About Forever

The Truth about Forever, by Sarah Dessen is another great book. Sarah Dessen has outdone herself again. When Macy accidentally joins the chaotic Wish Catering Crew, she has no idea what she's getting herself into. Macy is forced to look at her life in a whole new light. This book explores the hard decisions that we face everyday. Some about love, some about dealing with a hardship that has been thrown into your life unexpectedly. While I was reading The Truth About Forever, it kind of took me a while to really get into it, but once you start, eventually, it will be a book you can't put down.

All American Girl and Ready or Not

All American Girl and Ready or Not are the first two books in the All American Girl Series by Meg Cabot. In All American Girl, Samantha is an outcast. Red hair, all black wordrobe, and an artist. But when she saves the president from an assassin, her whole world changes. All American Girl is one of my favorite books. I love Samantha's outlook on the world. She's bad ass and caring at the same time. Amazingly well written.

In Ready or Not, Sam has to make a hard decision about if her and her boyfriend, David's (who happens to be the president's son,) relationship, and if it's worth possibly losing her virginity. Things are moving fast and Sam has to make a decision whether she's ready or not. Almost as good as the first one. This book reaches all of the stresses and decisions teens deal with, and how to deal without completely losing your head.

The Secret Life of Bees

This is such a great book! Lily has ran away from home with her stand in mother, and in a time of strong racism, Lily finds ways to ignore the remarks, and lives on befriending strangers of a different race, falling in love, and searching for the truth about her mother. there are so many twists to this book but it makes the whole story. While I was reading The Secret Life of Bees, i kept thinking about what might happen next. There's a large amount of forshadowing, and what you expect to happen, won't happen. It's one of the best books i've read, and I can definitely see why it was on Good Morning, America's Book list. I highly reccomend it.

Broken China

Broken China is the story of a struggling teenage mother. When tradgedy strikes China Cup Cameron and the rest of her very small family, China must make some potentially self destructing decisions that could change her entire future. This is a very sad book, and I wouldn't recomend it to someone who is looking for good, happy, story. But if you're just looking for a really good story about young women overcoming some pretty big obstacles, i would definitely reccomend this book. While I was reading this, I kept thinking, what would I do if this happened to me? What would I do if I had a baby when I was 12 years old? Would I get a job at a strip club? I mean you can't help wondering as you read about how China makes her decisions, and what her reasons are. It's a really good book, just very, very sad.

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer

Lately, in my English class, we've been reading The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Its a very good book in my opinion. But then again I love historical fiction books and movies. And all those really good black and white movies. But anyway, so far we're on chapter 15, We've found out who Tom is, he's fallen in love, experienced a murder, and is now a "pirate". All of his adventures are so exciting, even if they are against the rules. He cuts school to go swimming and is so smart that he even threads his shirt back up to keep his Aunt Polly from noticing. But then his brother Sid, being the smart alec and tattle tell, will point him out in some way and he'll get in trouble anyway. Mark Twain was a fantastic writer, and i can seriously see why this is truly an american classic. Everyone should read this at least once in their lifetime.
