The Vegetarian Bible

Yesterday, I finished reading the Vegetarian Bible. I really want to go vegetarian, but i don't know where to start. I thought getting some recipes would be a good idea. The Vegetarian Bible was very interesting. The first part is a description of all of the different foods and substitutes. Then there's recipes. I copied a lot of them that sounded good to me, like pear compote with plums and apricots. Or lemon and almond rice pilaf. There's even a recipe for sushi! But it is a very good book for anyone looking for vegetarian recipes, I will put the recipes on my cookbook blog when i try them. :D Hope you check it out!

Lord of the Flies

So for english, we were required to read Lord of the Flies, by William Golding. And everyone was complaining because they hated the book so much. But personally? I liked it. Ever since i found out that my favorite t.v. show, Survivor, was based off of the movie, I was dying to read it. And it's not half bad as everyone in my school has been saying it is. When Ralph, Jack, Piggy and many other boys' plane goes down right over an island they are stranded and have to figure out ways to survive, get rescued, and "have fun". It is very well written and suprising. Every chapter ends in a cliff- hanger. It is very suprising how Golding reflects the ways people, especially young boys, can turn on each other so suddenly and how certain circumstances can turn even the best people into killers and savages. I'll tell you right now, I would not want to be stranded on an island with these boys. I reccomend this almost classic to any adventure reader.

If I Have A Wicked Stepmother, Where's My Prince?

This book is pretty interesting. If I Have a Wicked Stepmother....., by. Melissa Kantor is about a red headed, basketball fan, artist named lucy, who falls in love with the captain of the basketball team. Lucy has just moved accross the country, so she's not really expecting to fall in love, or become best friends with some popular girls. But when things take a turn at the prom, Lucy realizes love can not be what you expected. Even though this book is kind of predictable, it is suprising how Lucy's stepmother punishes her, how her dad is obivious, and how her stepsisters manage to always get her in trouble for something she didn't do. It's a very good book, and i reccomend it for anyone just looking for a good read. :)

Secret Santa

Secret Santa, by Sabrina James, is a wonderful book about how a secret santa game brings unlikely lovers together and opens their eyes to the reality that the person you're supposed to be with is right infront of you. Noelle has been crushing on Charlie since they were little. But when Secret Santa comes around, Noelle sees Charlie, and his brother Ryan, for who they really are. Lily has just had her heart broken by ex Jason. When Secret Santa comes, Lily finds out that even no ones can fall in love with popular boys and they can fall in love with her. This book tells the stories of Noelle, Lily, the two most popular sophomores, the beach girl, the two charming nerds and the biker. It is a wonderful book of how one little game can reveal so much about people and how it can bring unlikely friends together under the Christmas Spirit. Almost everyone will get their Christmas wish. At first I thought this book was kind of petty and such but in the end you can really see what you might be missing in your own life. Even though the book is kind of predictable in one part, in another part is totally suprising to see what happens.

First Date is another creepy book by R. L. Stine. Chelsea is a typical shy new girl in town, 15 and never had a date. When she meets two new boys, her life takes a turn. Two cute guys ask her out. Too bad one of them is a crazed killer. He moves from town to town looking for different girls to kill. Soon Chelsea is between a rock and her first date. It's for sure that her first date will always be remembered. R. L. Stine is a great writer, even though the book is predictable, it keeps you on your toes. :D

How to be Popular

How to be Popular is another great, hilarious book from Meg Cabot. This book follows the story of Steph Landry, a clutz of whom everyone in town knows the name of. She's at the end of the highschool food chain, just for spilling a drink on the most popular girl in school. But when Steph attempts popularity, she finds out that popularity is really not all it's cracked up to be. For a long time I've been wondering what it is like to be popular. I mean you have to look and act one way all the time and alwayz be "perfect". I would hate to have to do that. I mean I am far from perfect. And i think i like my social standing. The only thing i really want is to be the wieght i am supposed to be, maybe skinnier. i want to be healthier and junk like that. not popular. But i guess this is just my opinion. this really opens a lot of doors that were closed and reveals the truth of popularity. Meg Cabot does a wonderful job.

Pirates!

Oh my goodness! This is one of the best books i've ever read. It is going on my favorites list. Nancy Kington, on her 16 birthday is promised to a former pirate, now wealthy plantation owner. But Nancy is still in love with her childhood friend and love. Nancy flees Jamaica with Minerva Sharpe, a slave on her family's plantation. Nancy and Minerva join the piratical life as they try to outrun Bartholome, the man Nancy is promised to. Celia Rees does an extroadinary job depicting life as a women, a pirate, and a female pirate. I absolutely love this book. I reccomend everyone who likes their historical fiction to read it. It will blow you away.
